This document explains how to configure Extreme/Aerohive APs to broadcast their configured names. With Wyebot’s WiFi assurance dashboard, wireless devices detected by Wyebot sensors will be represented by their wireless MAC address by default. This is not ideal as people prefer friendly names as opposed MAC addresses to identify devices within their network infrastructure.
ExtremeCloud APs have the ability to broadcast the AP name within the 802.11 beacon frame. When this name is advertised, Wyebot sensors will automatically discover it and use it in place of the MAC address everywhere on the Wyebot dashboard. While some vendors broadcast the AP name by default, this feature must be explicitly enabled on Extreme/Aerohive APs using the ExtremeCloud IQ dashboard.
This document applies to Extreme/Aerohive APs running on ExtremeCloud IQ or Aerohive NG 8.2 and later.
This feature is referred to as Hostname in Beacon in ExtremeCloud IQ and it is enabled in the Network Policy section. Follow the steps below to enable the feature.
